Jeremy Ruckert
Jeremy Ruckert Missing time with foot injury
Sat, May 7, 2022, 1:03 PM
Ruckert, who has been suffering from a foot injury, will be re-evaluated next week to determine the extent the rookie will be able to participate in the Jets' rookie OTAs, Ralph Vacchiano of SportsNet New York reports.
Analysis: The quote suggests the Jets are "hopeful" the 2022 third-round pick will be able to participate during any of the Jets' spring optional practices throughout the spring, including rookie OTAs. New York signed both C.J. Uzomah and Tyler Conklin this offseason to bolster a previously porous TE corps, so any missed time could put the Ohio State product even further behind in his quest for quality snaps during his rookie campaign.
Braxton Berrios
Braxton Berrios Likely to open as fourth WR
Mon, May 2, 2022, 3:03 PM
Berrios is likely to open the season fourth on the Jets' wide receiver depth chart after the team added Garrett Wilson in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft, Connor Hughes of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Wilson likely will start on the outside opposite Corey Davis, moving Elijah Moore predominantly into a slot role. With Moore starting in the slot, Berrios will be relegated to a reserve role, though he'll likely see the field in four-wide sets and on various gadget plays that make the most of his quickness and abilities in the open field. Berrios also is one of the league's top returners, so he should remain a significant contributor for the Jets.
Michael Carter
Michael Carter Team adds young stud at RB
Sun, May 1, 2022, 10:47 AM
Carter will be joined by rookie second-round pick Breece Hall in New York's backfield, Rich Cimini of ESPN reports.
Analysis: Hall was the first running back selected in the 2022 NFL Draft, as the Jets traded up two spots in the second round to grab him 36th overall. The Iowa State product is capable of playing a three-down role, but there still should be plenty of touches left over for Carter working alongside Hall. Carter proved capable of excelling in a timeshare while in college, as he topped 1,000 rushing yards in each of his final two years at UNC, despite splitting carries with Javonte Williams.
Zach Wilson
Zach Wilson Joined by namesake at WR
Sun, May 1, 2022, 10:41 AM
Wilson will be getting a prominent new target, as the Jets selected wide receiver Garrett Wilson 10th overall in the 2022 NFL Draft, Rich Cimini of ESPN reports.
Analysis: GM Joe Douglas has completely revamped New York's offense in just two offseasons. He signed Corey Davis before drafting Zach Wilson and Elijah Moore in 2021, then added Garrett Wilson (no relation) in the 2022 Draft. The Jets also added veteran tight ends C.J. Uzomah and Tyler Conklin as well as rookie Jeremy Ruckert (third round) this offseason, plus second-round running back Breece Hall to complement 2021 fourth-rounder Michael Carter. Even if the Wilson-to-Wilson connection takes awhile to take off, the recent influx of playmakers has put the 2021 second overall pick in position to succeed under center.
Elijah Moore
Elijah Moore Team adds similar young WR
Sun, May 1, 2022, 10:29 AM
Moore will be joined by rookie 10th overall pick Garrett Wilson in New York's receiving corps, Rich Cimini of ESPN reports.
Analysis: For a third consecutive draft, the Jets used a premium selection on a wide receiver. While 2020 second-rounder Denzel Mims is shaping up to be a bust, the early returns on Moore -- selected 34th overall in 2021 -- look encouraging, and Wilson is the team's most highly regarded receiving prospect yet coming out of Ohio State. Moore and Wilson profile similarly as fast, undersized receivers who can play both outside and in the slot. New York will likely take advantage of their versatility by moving Moore and Wilson around frequently, but Corey Davis (groin) could be the team's premier red-zone threat given his larger frame.
Corey Davis
Corey Davis Joined by young field-stretcher
Sun, May 1, 2022, 10:23 AM
Davis (groin) will be joined by rookie Garrett Wilson in New York's receiving corps, Rich Cimini of ESPN reports.
Analysis: The Jets selected Wilson 10th overall out of Ohio State. On paper, Wilson's skill set should mesh nicely with that of Davis, as Wilson's an undersized speedster who can stretch the field and allow Davis to use his 6-foot-3, 209-pound frame to establish position in single coverage on the other side of the field. As the veteran option in a young receiving corps that also includes Elijah Moore, Davis likely will be leaned on as a safety blanket for quarterback Zach Wilson, assuming Davis is recovered from the groin injury that ended his first season in New York.
Jeff Smith
Jeff Smith Signs new contract
Mon, Apr 18, 2022, 7:16 PM
Smith signed a one-year contract with the Jets on Monday, Howard Balzer of SI.com reports.
Analysis: Smith appeared in 12 games for the Jets last season, recording eight catches on 17 targets for 113 yards. It was a step backwards statistically from 2020 for the third-year pro, but he did see an increased role on special teams as a gunner on kickoffs and punts.
Denzel Mims
Denzel Mims Adding lean muscle
Mon, Apr 18, 2022, 3:30 PM
Mims has been getting bigger and leaner while working with trainer Chad Marr this offseason, Kevin Patra of NFL.com reports.
Analysis: Mims lost 20 pounds due to food poisoning prior to last season and was never able to get going, finishing his second NFL campaign with just eight catches. According to Marr, Mims simultaneously has put on weight yet gotten leaner by adding muscle. With Elijah Moore, Corey Davis and Braxton Berrios all ahead of Mims on the depth chart and the Jets looking into adding another wide receiver through the draft or a trade, the 2020 second-round pick out of Baylor will have to show noticeable improvement in his third season to earn significant snaps on offense.
Mike White
Mike White Signs RFA tender
Tue, Mar 22, 2022, 4:07 PM
White has signed his restricted free agent tender with the Jets, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Per Cimini, White is slated to earn $2.54 million this coming season. The 26-year-old made four appearances (three starts) for the Jets in 2021, completing 88 of 132 passes for 953 yards, to go along with five touchdowns and eight interceptions. Now that he's back in the fold, White will compete with veteran Joe Flacco for the No. 2 signal-caller job behind Zach Wilson.
C.J. Uzomah
C.J. Uzomah Joined by Conklin in NY
Fri, Mar 18, 2022, 11:32 AM
Uzomah will compete for playing time with fellow tight end Tyler Conklin, whom the Jets officially signed to a contract Friday.
Analysis: Uzomah and Conklin both topped the tight end depth charts for their respective teams in 2021, with the former racking up 493 yards and five touchdowns with the Bengals and the latter totaling 593 yards and three touchdowns with the Vikings. There should be plenty of snaps to go around for both of the Jets' new tight ends in 2022, as offensive coordinator Mike LaFleur likes to run a lot of 12 personnel with two tight ends on the field simultaneously. LaFleur's shift away from such formations in the second half of last season can be attributed to New York's lack of healthy talent at tight end, which the team hopes to have addressed with the signings of Uzomah and Conklin.
Tyler Conklin
Tyler Conklin Jetting to New York
Wed, Mar 16, 2022, 6:59 PM
The Jets and Conklin agreed to terms on a contract Wednesday, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: In 2021, Conklin benefited from the loss of Irv Smith for the season due to a torn meniscus in late August, breaking out with a 61-593-3 line on 87 targets in 17 games. With his new squad, Conklin joins C.J. Uzomah to form a remodeled tight end room. Conklin likely will play second fiddle to Uzomah, and passes from second-year signal-caller Zach Wilson may be difficult to come by in an offense that includes wide receivers Corey Davis (groin), Elijah Moore (quadriceps/illness) and Braxton Berrios.
Mike White
Mike White Tendered by Jets
Wed, Mar 16, 2022, 2:19 PM
The Jets tendered White at his original-round level Wednesday, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: With the move, he's set to make $2.54 million in 2022, unless another team offers him more. In which case, New York would have the ability to match any offer, but if they decline, they'd receive a fifth-round pick in return. The Jets also re-signed Joe Flacco to a one-year, $3.5 million deal Wednesday, so they'll have multiple options behind Zach Wilson. In 2021, White made four appearances (three starts) and completed 88 of 132 passes for 953 yards, five touchdowns and eight interceptions. However, the majority of his positive production (405 yards and three touchdowns) came in a Week 8 upset win over the Bengals.
Joe Flacco
Joe Flacco Returns to Jets
Wed, Mar 16, 2022, 1:44 PM
Flacco has signed a one-year deal to remain with the Jets, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Per Cimini, the 37-year-old's deal is for $3.5 million, plus incentives. Now that he's back in the fold, Flacco, who logged one spot start at QB with the Jets last season, will continue to provide the team with an experienced backup/mentor for Zach Wilson, the No. 2 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.
C.J. Uzomah
C.J. Uzomah Three-year deal with Jets
Mon, Mar 14, 2022, 6:13 PM
Uzomah (knee) is slated to sign a three-year, $24 million deal with the Jets, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: Uzomah is bouncing back from an MCL sprain that he sustained during the postseason, but his pending deal with the Jets suggests that's not going to be a concern heading into the team's offseason activities. The 29-year-old is coming off a 2021 campaign in which he logged 49 catches (on 63 targets) for 493 yards and five touchdowns in 16 games for the Bengals. With the Jets, Uzomah is in line to serve as the team's top pass-catching option at tight end, a role that could yield fantasy utility in 2022 should the 6-foot-6, 260-pounder click well with second-year signal-caller Zach Wilson.
Tevin Coleman
Tevin Coleman Returning to Jets
Mon, Mar 14, 2022, 5:41 PM
Coleman will re-sign with the Jets, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Coleman, who turns 29 next month, finished last season with 84 carries for 356 yards to go along with 11 catches (on 16 targets) for 49 yards in 11 games. Whereas last year, when Coleman approached Week 1 with starting aspirations, he appears destined for a complementary role behind ascending 2021 fourth-rounder Michael Carter in his second campaign with the Jets.
Braxton Berrios
Braxton Berrios Staying in New York
Mon, Mar 14, 2022, 1:45 PM
Berrios (quadriceps) is re-signing with the Jets on a two-year contract that includes $7 million guaranteed, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Analysis: Initial reports have it as a two-year, $12 million deal for the 26-year-old slot receiver, following a strong finish to his third NFL season. Berrios missed Week 18 with a quad injury that's likely healed by now, but prior to that, he had a four-game stretch (Weeks 14-17) with 20 catches for 180 yards and a touchdown and five carries for 25 yards and another two scores. He even added a kick-return TD in that stretch, which helped him earn a spot as a return specialist on the All-Pro team. The new contract suggests Berrios will have a steady role on offense going forward, in addition to his strong work on special teams. It's also a hint the Jets don't plan to re-sign fellow slot receiver Jamison Crowder.
Jamison Crowder
Jamison Crowder Expected to hit free agency
Tue, Mar 8, 2022, 9:02 AM
The Jets are expected to let Crowder (calf) test free agency, DJ Bien-Aime of the New York Daily News reports.
Analysis: Crowder inked a three-year, $28.5 million deal with the Jets back in 2019, but the veteran slot receiver's role on offense has since dwindled following the emergence of Elijah Moore. The soon-to-be 29-year-old posted his least productive season with New York across 12 appearances in 2021, with just 447 receiving yards and two scores. Soft tissue issues forced Crowder to miss five games last year, including a calf injury that forced him out of the season finale, but it looks like he will be fully healthy by the time he hits the open market.
Kenny Yeboah
Kenny Yeboah Two catches in rookie season
Fri, Jan 14, 2022, 2:23 PM
Yeboah caught two of three targets for 36 yards as a rookie in 2021.
Analysis: The undrafted free agent out of Ole Miss spent most of the season on the Jets' practice squad but got some playing time down the stretch after injuries ravaged New York's tight end depth chart. Both of his catches came in Week 17. Yeboah will look to secure a spot on the 53-man roster in camp next season, but his chances of doing so will hinge on what the Jets do to address the tight end position in the offseason in addition to his own improvement.
Tyler Kroft
Tyler Kroft Catches 16 passes in 2021
Fri, Jan 14, 2022, 2:20 PM
Kroft caught 16 of 25 targets for 173 yards and a touchdown over nine appearances in 2021.
Analysis: Kroft missed time due to a back injury and lung laceration, but he split top tight end duties with Ryan Griffin when healthy and actually ended up finishing with the second-highest receiving yardage total of his seven-year NFL career. Tight end is one of many positions the Jets will likely look to upgrade in the offseason, but it's unclear if bringing back Kroft -- who's an unrestricted free agent -- is part of the team's plan at the position.
Jeff Smith
Jeff Smith Mostly special-teams role in 2021
Fri, Jan 14, 2022, 2:15 PM
Smith caught eight of 17 targets for 113 yards in 2021.
Analysis: Smith appeared in 12 games with the Jets and featured regularly on special teams but rarely saw the field on offense. He'll be an exclusive-rights free agent this offseason, which means the Jets have the option to bring Smith back at the league minimum salary, and New York may opt to do so based on Smith's special-teams contributions as the gunner on kickoffs and punts.
