Still on track for training camp
Wed, May 11, 2022, 12:28 PM
Lawson (Achilles) said Wednesday that he expects to be back for training camp, Connor Hughes of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Jets head coach Robert Saleh made similar comments about Lawson's status at the end of March and it appears the pass rusher's rehab is still going well. Lawson signed a contract ahead of the 2021 season but missed the entire campaign due to a ruptured left Achilles suffered last August. He posted 36 tackles, 5.5 sacks and two forced fumbles across 16 games for the Bengals in 2020.
Inks deal with Jets

Jackson signed with the Jets as an undrafted free agent Monday, Ethan Greenberg of the team's official site reports.
Analysis: Jackson played 13 games for Washington State last season, earning 66 receptions for 987 yards and seven touchdowns. His catch count was fourth in the Pac-12, while his 987 receiving yards finished second in the conference. Jackson likely will have to earn a spot on the Jets' practice squad, if he is to make the team.

The Jets signed Knight as an undrafted free agent Friday, Ethan Greenberg of the Jets' official site reports.
Analysis: Knight appeared in 12 games at NC State last year and rushed 140 times for 753 yards and three touchdowns while securing 21 of 25 targets for 156 yards. He'll compete for a role with the Jets in 2022, and he could be a candidate to serve as a returner in the NFL.
Jeremy Ruckert
Jeremy Ruckert Missing time with foot injury
Sat, May 7, 2022, 1:03 PM
Ruckert, who has been suffering from a foot injury, will be re-evaluated next week to determine the extent the rookie will be able to participate in the Jets' rookie OTAs, Ralph Vacchiano of SportsNet New York reports.
Analysis: The quote suggests the Jets are "hopeful" the 2022 third-round pick will be able to participate during any of the Jets' spring optional practices throughout the spring, including rookie OTAs. New York signed both C.J. Uzomah and Tyler Conklin this offseason to bolster a previously porous TE corps, so any missed time could put the Ohio State product even further behind in his quest for quality snaps during his rookie campaign.

The Jets signed Charles as an undrafted free agent Friday, Ralph Vacchiano of SportsNet New York reports.
Analysis: Charles started his college career at Penn State but transferred to IUP in 2019, though he didn't take the field until the 2021 campaign due to academic ineligibility and COVID-19 issues. In his lone season with IUP, the 6-foot-4 wideout caught 39 passes for 791 yards and 12 touchdowns.

The Jets signed Abram as an undrafted free agent Friday, Ralph Vacchiano of SportsNet New York reports.
Analysis: Abram caught 47 passes for 699 yards and three touchdowns during his final campaign at Kent State. The 6-foot-2 wideout will likely compete with fellow pass catcher Irvin Charles, who was also signed as an undrafted free agent.
Claimed by Jets
Fri, May 6, 2022, 12:29 PM
The Jets claimed Herbig off waived Thursday, Mike Kaye of The Newark Star-Ledger reports.
Analysis: Herbig was waived by the Eagles on Monday and quickly found a new home in New York. The undrafted offensive guard out of Stanford has started 17 games over the last two seasons in Philadelphia, but he'll likely be a depth option for the Jets' interior offensive line during the 2022 campaign.
Braxton Berrios
Braxton Berrios Likely to open as fourth WR
Mon, May 2, 2022, 3:03 PM
Berrios is likely to open the season fourth on the Jets' wide receiver depth chart after the team added Garrett Wilson in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft, Connor Hughes of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Wilson likely will start on the outside opposite Corey Davis, moving Elijah Moore predominantly into a slot role. With Moore starting in the slot, Berrios will be relegated to a reserve role, though he'll likely see the field in four-wide sets and on various gadget plays that make the most of his quickness and abilities in the open field. Berrios also is one of the league's top returners, so he should remain a significant contributor for the Jets.
Michael Carter
Michael Carter Team adds young stud at RB
Sun, May 1, 2022, 10:47 AM
Carter will be joined by rookie second-round pick Breece Hall in New York's backfield, Rich Cimini of ESPN reports.
Analysis: Hall was the first running back selected in the 2022 NFL Draft, as the Jets traded up two spots in the second round to grab him 36th overall. The Iowa State product is capable of playing a three-down role, but there still should be plenty of touches left over for Carter working alongside Hall. Carter proved capable of excelling in a timeshare while in college, as he topped 1,000 rushing yards in each of his final two years at UNC, despite splitting carries with Javonte Williams.
Zach Wilson
Zach Wilson Joined by namesake at WR
Sun, May 1, 2022, 10:41 AM
Wilson will be getting a prominent new target, as the Jets selected wide receiver Garrett Wilson 10th overall in the 2022 NFL Draft, Rich Cimini of ESPN reports.
Analysis: GM Joe Douglas has completely revamped New York's offense in just two offseasons. He signed Corey Davis before drafting Zach Wilson and Elijah Moore in 2021, then added Garrett Wilson (no relation) in the 2022 Draft. The Jets also added veteran tight ends C.J. Uzomah and Tyler Conklin as well as rookie Jeremy Ruckert (third round) this offseason, plus second-round running back Breece Hall to complement 2021 fourth-rounder Michael Carter. Even if the Wilson-to-Wilson connection takes awhile to take off, the recent influx of playmakers has put the 2021 second overall pick in position to succeed under center.
Elijah Moore
Elijah Moore Team adds similar young WR
Sun, May 1, 2022, 10:29 AM
Moore will be joined by rookie 10th overall pick Garrett Wilson in New York's receiving corps, Rich Cimini of ESPN reports.
Analysis: For a third consecutive draft, the Jets used a premium selection on a wide receiver. While 2020 second-rounder Denzel Mims is shaping up to be a bust, the early returns on Moore -- selected 34th overall in 2021 -- look encouraging, and Wilson is the team's most highly regarded receiving prospect yet coming out of Ohio State. Moore and Wilson profile similarly as fast, undersized receivers who can play both outside and in the slot. New York will likely take advantage of their versatility by moving Moore and Wilson around frequently, but Corey Davis (groin) could be the team's premier red-zone threat given his larger frame.
Corey Davis
Corey Davis Joined by young field-stretcher
Sun, May 1, 2022, 10:23 AM
Davis (groin) will be joined by rookie Garrett Wilson in New York's receiving corps, Rich Cimini of ESPN reports.
Analysis: The Jets selected Wilson 10th overall out of Ohio State. On paper, Wilson's skill set should mesh nicely with that of Davis, as Wilson's an undersized speedster who can stretch the field and allow Davis to use his 6-foot-3, 209-pound frame to establish position in single coverage on the other side of the field. As the veteran option in a young receiving corps that also includes Elijah Moore, Davis likely will be leaned on as a safety blanket for quarterback Zach Wilson, assuming Davis is recovered from the groin injury that ended his first season in New York.
Big Apple bound

The Jets selected Clemons in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL Draft, 117th overall.
Analysis: Clemons will be 25 years old by the time Week 1 kicks off, as he spent two years at community college before a five-year stint with Texas A&M. He was productive over his final two seasons with 46 tackles, 15.5 tackles for loss and 11 sacks. As a former linebacker and running back, Clemons is still developing his edge skills and and may take time to fill into an NFL role.
Headed to New York
Sat, Apr 30, 2022, 11:30 AM
The Jets selected Mitchell in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL Draft, 111th overall.
Analysis: Mitchell (6-foot-6, 307 pounds) played tackle at Louisiana but might need to focus on guard at the NFL level. He lacks reach by tackle standards (33 and 1/2-inch arms) and demonstrated only average athleticism at the combine, so Mitchell profiles more as a swing backup type than a definite starter for the Jets.
Latest addition in New York

The Jets selected Ruckert in the third round of the 2022 NFL Draft, 101st overall.
Analysis: New York picked up C.J. Uzomah in free agency, but Ruckert is a nice speculative add for the Jets. Ruckert was highly touted coming out of high school, but Ohio State's loaded receiving corps limited his opportunities to shine through the air, as he didn't have a 20-catch season until his senior year. He was unable to test at the combine due to a left foot injury, but Ruckert has a conventional tight-end frame at 6-foot-5 and 252 pounds. Ruckert may be blocked in terms of immediate playing time, but he could find a role in this offense by his second or third season.
Joins New York's backfield
Fri, Apr 29, 2022, 6:32 PM
The Jets selected Hall in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft, 36th overall.
Analysis: Hall is the first running back off the board and projects to take over as the Jets' starting running back in short order, even with impressive 2021 fourth-round pick Michael Carter already an important part of the Jets offense. At 5-foot-11, 217 pounds with a 4.39-second 40 at the combine, the former Iowa State star has a workhorse frame with big-play athleticism. The Jets should have upwards of 65 snaps per game to distribute among their running backs, and a split like 40-25 or 35-30 should be the eventual outcome between Hall and Carter. Hall was a dominant producer at Iowa State, including as a pass catcher, finishing his Cyclone career with 3,941 yards (5.5 YPC) and 50 touchdowns rushing while adding 82 receptions for 734 yards and six touchdowns in 36 career games.
Taken by New York in first round
Thu, Apr 28, 2022, 10:03 PM
The Jets selected Johnson in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft, 26th overall.
Analysis: Johnson was widely expected to go as high as the first 10 picks, so the Florida State product could be a steal for the Jets if there is nothing amiss otherwise. Johnson was less productive and broke out later in his collegiate career than some of the edge defenders selected before him, but at the very least he's a very toolsy prospect at 6-foot-5, 254 pounds with a 4.58-second combine 40. That he broke out late in college might indicate the need for some development time to catch up to NFL speed, but Johnson is also a candidate to start right away for the Jets.
Goes 10th overall to New York
Thu, Apr 28, 2022, 8:23 PM
The Jets selected Wilson in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft, 10th overall.
Analysis: Wilson (6-foot, 183 pounds) was a highly productive receiver at Ohio State, where he produced 143 receptions for 2,213 yards and 23 touchdowns on 207 career targets (69.1 percent caught, 10.7 yards per target). While his light frame might limit him somewhat in heavier traffic, Wilson's athleticism and skill set should play well from any receiver position and at any depth of the field. His 4.38-second combine 40-yard dash time adds further credibility to the burst that's so apparent in his game tape, so he should prove a noteworthy big-play threat at receiver from Day 1 for the Jets. The question is how quickly he can get up to speed and compete for targets against a competent group of pass catchers in Elijah Moore, Corey Davis, Braxton Berrios and two noteworthy free agent signings at tight end.
Selected fourth overall by New York
Thu, Apr 28, 2022, 7:38 PM
The Jets selected Gardner in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft, fourth overall.
Analysis: Gardner is a big corner out of Cincinnati, where his press-heavy style of lockdown coverage earned him comparisons to NFL great Richard Sherman. Gardner has unmatched reach at 6-foot-3 with 33.5-inch arms, and his 4.41-second combine 40 demonstrated long speed to recover if he gets beat at the line of scrimmage. The Jets pass defense should improve noticeably with this selection.
Back to full health

McGovern (knee) said Tuesday he's "100 percent," Randy Lange of the Jets' official site reports.
Analysis: McGovern suffered an MCL injury in his knee late December, but he appears to be back to full strength for OTAs. He's expected to serve as the Jets' starting center during the 2022 campaign.
